“The new home-centered, church-supported integrated curriculum has the potential to unleash the power of families.”
President Russell M. Nelson
You can do Come Follow Me successfully with your family! Especially with busy, bouncy preschoolers next to you! You don’t need to spend time preparing materials every week. You can gather your family and spend 10 meaningful, engaging, powerful minutes together focusing on a scripture, song, and activity. Consistent family scripture study is a powerful way to help your family learn the gospel, and it doesn’t have to be overwhelming! It can be a part of the week your whole family looks forward to! Even you, mama!
“As you make scripture study an important part of your family life, you will help your family members come closer to Jesus Christ and build their testimonies on the foundation of His word.”
Come Follow Me for Individuals and Families 2019
I’m charged with excitement to share my Come Follow Me board with you! You can make one too! Now that my board is prepared, I am ready to include and even let my preschoolers lead our family Come Follow Me time.
As a mama to mama note, my heart encourages you to try to carve out a few morning minutes or naptime minutes to spend reading your scriptures individually each day. The Come Follow Me weekly chapters are beautiful and simple to get in throughout the week. I’ve found that as I read, I am more easily able to bear testimony to my family during our Come Follow Me time and also make use of everyday teaching moments that relate to our Come Follow Me scripture of the week.
“My dear brothers and sisters, I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions”
President Russell M. Nelson
My new Come Follow Me approach allows my whole family to be involved in scripture study. In 2019 I realized I tended to put my youngest children to bed and then start family scripture time which didn’t feel right to my heart. Also, I strive to have a clutter-free home so I didn’t want to use printables in 2020 that I have to remember to prepare (and then immediately throw away). I wanted to have simple hands-on ideas using household items that my whole family can enjoy within a minute’s notice.
Let’s get to it!
I have looked through the Come Follow Me for Individuals and Families and Come Follow Me for Primary as well as my Book of Mormon to prepare short interactive scripture lessons to do once a week with my whole family for the next 6 months. If you are interested in doing something similar, you are welcome to use what I have prepared for my family from the free printable here. Use it as a springboard and let the spirit decide what your family needs to be taught.
You can print off the weekly ideas, use the ideas digitally, or make a Come Follow Me board like I chose to do for 2020! Do whatever feels best for your family! Watch the video and read on to see how my Come Follow Me board works. I chose to make a special board because I think it will get my whole family excited about our Come Follow Me nights.
The materials I used are
- A tri-fold display board
- Scrapbook paper
- A large circle decorative hole punch (but you could just trace and cut circles)
- A handheld hole punch
- Ribbon
- Washi tape (optional)
- Self-adhesive dots.
- Adhesive velcro
- Laminator and laminating sheets (optional)
- A picture of Jesus with children
Since there are 50 weeks of Come Follow Me, I chose to make a numbered circle for each week. Then I made enough additional blank circles (150) so that I could attach 3 blank circles behind each of the numbered circles. One of the blank circles is for the scripture, one is for the song, and one is for the activity for each week.
After I laminated all the circles to make them durable, I hole punched all the circles, then connected them with a loosely knotted ribbon with the numbered circle on top and 3 blank circles behind.
I used adhesive velcro to attach each of the 50 ribbon-tied circle groupings to the tri-fold board.
Then I cut my Come Follow Me plans (print here) into 3 parts for each week (the song, the scripture, the activity) and taped each part onto its own circle for each week.
As a finishing touch, I attached decorative washi tape to close off each circle group so it will be like opening a present each week for my children to see what our song, scripture and activity will be.
I made my circles durable (through lamination) because I am planning to reuse the board and simply attach new lesson plan weekly ideas to the laminated circles for a 2021 board. This makes my time investment in this project especially worth it. ***Win!***
Remember, the gospel of Jesus Christ is beautiful in its simplicity. Small teaching moments (that don’t require a lot of weekly preparation) focused on the scriptures are the absolute best! You can definitely lead Come Follow Me in your home and make it a time the whole family looks forward to! Go get it, mama!

I love how eager I am to do family scripture study with my husband and children (ages 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11). We will read our scripture verse of the week, sing the recommended weekly song and do an engaging correlating activity. I hope this resource that I have created to use with my own family is something that can be helpful for your family too!
