Hi! I’m Heather and if you’ve stumbled onto our little website, maybe you and I have a lot in common. Like me, you have a hard time sending your kids off to preschool. You hesitate because you don’t want to miss a single moment of them interacting with life during this precious, and all-too-short stage of childhood. No other spectator will cheer as loud, laugh as hard, or appreciate what your little performer will do on this earthly stage as you will. And you want them to hear your applause. After a morning of playing pretend and watching your newly swept floor become buried in toys, books, and goldfish crackers, you sit exhausted on the couch hoping you taught them something. You also hope they think you are the kind, happy mommy you were when the day started.
I graduated from Brigham Young University in Early Childhood Education and then taught public kindergarten while my husband started post grad. When we had our first baby I decided to stay home. Now as a mama of five, I still find doing a home based preschool a wonderful outlet for my love of teaching. That’s me really…I love my kids and I love to teach!
While teaching preschool from my home for my children and my friends’ children as well as participating in preschool co-ops with other moms, I have seen some great home based preschool material online. However, it didn’t touch on all the things I wanted to teach and share with my children. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I wanted to weave gospel teachings with a simple, structured and enjoyable preschool curriculum. I mentioned this to Cindy one night, and she explained she felt the same way while teaching her kids. We realized that if we would benefit from a curriculum like this then others would as well.
I wanted to create a hands-on, developmentally appropriate program including the very best ideas for teaching ABC’s and 123’s combined with scripture stories. I love helping my sweet little ones feel the love of Jesus and Heavenly Father while they learn. MyLDSPreschool.com was started because I wanted it for my own kids.….but it was created to help empower parents to positively influence the hearts and minds of their children through a comprehensive, faith-based curriculum in the walls of their own home.

She will unfortunately not start kindergarten until she is 6 due to her birthdate. So, we will be using this program for 2 years. Will the program develop with her or will I be re-teaching the same curriculum for 2 cycles? I thought I read that it’s for kids 3-5 so I was a little confused about using the same material for a child who is 3 vs a child who is 5. Read Less

Hooray for teaching your almost 4-year-old! I have two little ones that have started kinder as 6-year-olds as well! We have 1 year of our lds preschool curriculum, but other families continue to use it a second year as well. The suggested age range has worked successfully for 3, 4, and 5 year olds. Children who are 5 are ready to participate in activities for longer time periods and can extend learning with increased independence. For example, we suggest an interactive writing activity at the end of each weekly lesson 2. A 5-year-old may be eager and ready to help you write a sentence whereas a 3-year-old may be more of an observer and help place a finger in between mom's words to create a space. A math counting activity singing Hickory Dickory Dock and teaching time on a watch may be more of an introduction for a 3-year-old teaching the concept of time and corresponding numbers and an older preschooler may be ready to identify each number and help show time on the clock. The activities are open to each child's developmental abilities. Thank you for your questions! Read Less
